Do you only have a few hours to get out on the water near Uummannaq? Join us to visit several of the highlights of the Uuumannaq Fjord in this half-day Iceberg & Nature Sailing Cruises in Greenland.
You’ll get a true appreciation for just how enormous those icebergs that you see from Uummannaq really are as we pass quite close to several of them on our journey in the fjord. You should also keep a sharp lookout for seals or one of the many playful whales that frequent these waters during the summer months as you relax and take in the beauty of the landscape.
During our excursion, we will visit Qilakitsoq where the famous Greenland mummies were found. Although the mummies have been removed to the National Museum (replicas can be found in the Uummannaq Museum), the site still contains several traditional turf houses half-buried under grass, and a beautiful view back towards Uummannaq.
We will also go ashore at the “Red Desert”, named for its brightly coloured lunar-like landscape. Here the eroded rocks are rich in iron and sulphur, resulting in a vibrant panorama that contrasts beautifully against a blue sky. The views to the distance glaciers in the south are spectacular.
Make sure you don’t miss out on seeing some of the major sights of the Uummannaq Fjord by selecting a date and clicking on Book Now.
