Summer in Uummannaq

Skip the tourist crowds of Ilulissat and enjoy all the summer attractions of Greenland in Uummannaq.

Enormous icebergs and calving glaciers? Check!

Whales? Yep, we’ve got loads!

Midnight Sun? It’s visible for long up here than further south.

Small traditional settlements? We have 7 of them!

Awesome hiking and fishing?  You bet!

Spend your summer vacation with us in the heart of Greenland and experience a more relaxed and traditional way of life.

Out guides are hunters and fishermen who know the area like the back of their hands and have family and friends in the smaller settlements. Who better to  explore the magnificent Uummannaq Fjord with than these expert sailors and wildlife spotters who rely on these same abilities to put food on the table for their families.

Practical Information

The best months for your summer adventure in Uummannaq are July – September. The sea is clear of ice (except for the massive icebergs of course) and the whales are here on their annual visit.

The weather is sunny (mostly) and temperatures range from 3 – 10 degrees Celsius. While this might sound cold, the dry air and strong sun mean you will likely find yourself walking around in short sleeves if there is no wind. Make sure you bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and a sun hat!

That being said, you still need to bring a good windproof jacket and warm clothes that you can layer. Put more layers on when you get cold (in the evening, on a boat tour, if there is a breeze), take them off when you get hot (hiking, relaxing in the sun).
