Taste the Uummannaq Fjord

Are you curious as to how modern Greenlanders embrace nature while relaxing with family and friends?
Come chill out with us on A Taste of the Uummannaq Fjord where we’ll fish and feast as Greenlanders do in the stunning landscape of the Uummannaq Fjord.
We’ll visit Santa Claus’ house and forage for blue mussels and seaweed along the shoreline nearby.
It won’t take long for us to collect all that we need. And it’s always a little competitive to see who can find the largest mussel.
From there we’ll sail the Uummannaq Fjord admiring the incredible landscape and working to catch our dinner.
Don’t worry – it is guaranteed that we will catch something, with Cod, Halibut, Redfish and Catfish the most likely.
Once we’ve caught enough for dinner (and to feed our Greenlandic sled dogs), we’ll head over to Qajannguit the place where all the locals go to picnic.
It has an incredible view of Uummannaq Island and there are often whales, Arctic foxes and Arctic hares in the vicinity.
There we will make Killuut out of what we have caught – to a delicious traditional dinner.
The word “killuut” means “the way we make food in nature” in the Greenlandic language with the food prepared in a pot with herbs gathered in the area.
Once cooked, we pour the boiling food over a large stone and use our fingers to eat. This is called Kuisaq and is a traditional way of serving a meal.
After dinner, and with full stomachs, we will sail back to Uummannaq enjoying the evening light.
